I just tried to return a product intact with its original unopened package. Of course, I did not have the receipt and the manager would not accept the return initially.

First off, it was a "Pittsburgh" product, only belonging to Harbor Freight. Second, my records are on their database. It show when I purchased it and for how much. The clerk, unknowingly, without the manager's knowledge looked it up, and saw my purchase.

I asked the manager what is their reason why they would not refund or exchange my item without the receipt. She said it was due to fraud. I told her I just saw the records in their database and showed my purchase, there is no reason for this policy, unless it is to rip off customers. She said they were not suppose to look it up.

The only conclusion that makes sense is Harbor Freight is purposely implementing this policy in hopes most people won't have a receipt.

Harbor Freight is bottom barrel shopping with bottom barrel polices, hoping to make a buck on un-suspecting customers.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Monetary Loss: $50.

Location: Anaheim, California

I guess you are 12 years old since you haven't learned that receipts are required for returns. That's how a store knows when you bought it (The date), if it's still under warranty or within the stores return time frame, how much you paid for it, was it on sale or was a coupon used to discount the price.

You aren't able to manage your one little receipt so it's the store who has thousands of shoppers fault for not managing it for you. I see it your way now.

Did she type "Loser" into the register and your receipt fell out? Now that you have learned your lesson, you can manage the paperwork on your own purchases going forward and as you become a responsible 13 year old you can stop blaming others for your mistakes!

Unless they have a "must have receipt for refunds and exchanges" sign along with the policy on the actual receipt unfortunetly there not much any business will do. The policy should be clear in the store and on the customer receipt.

I would be miffed they are collecting phone numbers, names etc and it turns out to useless information for the customer. Only Harbor Freight seems to benefit with personal data collection probably selling it to marketers.
